My second speech synthesizer. (The first one, "Talking Machine" (1980) is built like an automatic organ with a separate pipe for each phoneme). MotorMouth is a mechanical vocal tract driven by motors. For its time - mid 90's - MotorMouth was a brave attempt at mechanical speech synthesis but has now been superseded by much more sophisticated devices such as the Waseda Talker Series:

私の２台目の発話シンセサイザー。(｢トーキング・マシーン｣と銘打った１台目(1980)の構造は自動オルガンに似ており、それぞれの音素に対応した独立のパイプがある)。モーター・マウスはモーターで動く機械仕掛けの声道である。90年代半ばに製作した時は、モーターマウスは機械的な発話合成を目指す大胆な試みであったが、今ではワセダ・トーカー・シリーズ：http://www.takanishi.mech.waseda.ac.jp/research/voice/　やKTRシリーズ：http://www.eng.kagawa-u.ac.jp/~sawada/index_e.html のようなもっと洗練された装置によって凌駕されてしまった。やわらかい素材、改良された発声器官そしてもっと洗練されたソフト・ウェアを使ったモーター・マウスの新しいヴァージョンを作ってみたいと思っている。
